Packing List for an Autumn/Early Winter Stay at Eräkeskus
Autumn and early winter in Finland can be very diverse – ranging from late summer warmth to winter chill. Therefore, we recommend checking the current weather forecast for our region before packing. To be well-prepared for the conditions, here are our tips:
Recommended Clothing:
We recommend the tried-and-tested layering principle, where multiple layers are worn on top of each other to flexibly adapt to temperature changes:
1. Base Layer: Functional underwear made of synthetic fiber or merino wool to wick moisture away from the body. Additionally, wool, thermal, or fleece socks, ideally two pairs worn over each other.
2. Middle Layer: Lightweight fleece clothing, such as a sweater and long thermal pants.
3. Insulating Layer: A thicker sweater or fleece jacket, and if needed, a second pair of fleece pants.
4. Outer Layer: A wind- and waterproof jacket and pants or an insulated overall with a hood. The hood should be large enough to fit over a hat for extra protection against wind and cold.
Equipment to bring:
- Water- and dirt-resistant shoes, such as hiking boots or rubber boots, for protection on wet or muddy ground.
- Weatherproof clothing
- Insulated flask (thermos bottle).
- Headlamp or flashlight with spare batteries.
- Thin gloves, such as work gloves from a hardware store.
- Thick gloves for cold days to keep your hands warm.
- Hat and, if necessary, face protection (forehead and ears should be covered).
- Tracksuit for overnight stays in the cabins.
- Slippers or non-slip socks for the lodge and cabins.
- Optional: A multitool.
What We Provide:
Once the first snow falls and temperatures become wintry, we provide the 4th layer (an insulated overall) as well as winter boots. Additionally, we have a limited number of hats and gloves available for rental.
With the right clothing and equipment, you'll be well-prepared to fully enjoy nature and our activities!
