GoWest, Ruunaa, Sun & Powder

The most beautiful winter-weeks - with long hours of sunshine, blue sky and still fresh powder - have now started.

GoWest 2023 is over, all 4 guests and the guides came back home, happy and proud. The temperatures during this week were freaking cold, that's why westayed 2 nights in the Aittokoski cabin, instead of driving to the Otroskoski-cabin, which is almost impossible to get warm in those outside-temperatures. Nights close to -30C surely justify this decision, for the wellbeing of dogs and humans. The night in the very simple Kuohatti-cabin was also very coldand for sure everbody was happy to have a warm bed and a warm doghouse the night before and after.

The last Ruunaa-Trail of the season is over as well. Here we had temperatures between -15C and +2C. Almost every day is now with long hours of great sunshine, sparkling powder and deep blue sky. Even beautiful northern lights we could admire at the beginning of this week. It might have been the last ones of the season, as the now approaching fullmoon makes the nights already much lighter and that makes the auroras harder to see.  And when this fullmoon period is over, then the nights get aready shorter and anyhow much lighter than the weeks before.  But never say never, chances are still here to see them dancing in the sky during this winter.

Due to the warmer days and the still falling fresh snow, we finally had to start the hard work to shovel the roofs free from snow. It took a while to do all the barns, shelters and porches, but now it is done and probably will not be needed to be done again during this winter.

Still 3 weeks with 3 or 4 groups are ahead of us. Then it gets calmer here. But until mid April we have tours booked and we deeply recommend all visitors to take sunglasses and suncreme with them!
