Let's Go West!

And again 2 weeks have passed and one more group finished the Bears Trail successfully. Gabriel and Moritz were leading the week with perfect weather and beautiful sunlight. And for the dog-resting day in the cabin, Matias took over and explored with the Swiss guests the area around the rapids. In the same week, 2 groups for the "Beginners Winterweek" were led by Julian and Simone and it was a really nice mix of Swiss, Germans and Dutch sitting in the restaurant.

We have a lot of snow... cannot remember those amounts in the last years. Hardly ever we have hard and fast trails, it's more often windblown and with fresh soft snow covering the trails. The dogs work hard to go through the windrifts or in overflow on the lakes. Our scooters are out rather often to re-open trails, but with a small team, like we are at the moment, it is not always possible. Then the mushers take over the trail-making parts and help the dogs wherever and whenever needed and possible.

Mid-January some dark clouds came up over us when Frank left us in the middle of the night without pre-information. But everybody is free to do what feels right at the moment and we wish him to never regret his decision. An important and long-experienced worker get's lost by this, but we sorted it out and re-arranged the team, life goes on, but sure his experience is missed. Bye Frank, thanks for all the good years & all the Best to you!

And now in the focus of this week: our new long distance week "Go West". The planning started already last winter, now the first tour really starts! As a new routing for the old Border Trail we test out 2 new cabins and long new trails with 2 experienced customers. Trails were opended to the cabins, dogs are now used to run longer distances, the training day with 35 km distance was yesterday without any problems, and now we are packing: sleeping bags, matresses, food, stakeout, spare parts, a bit of private things, cooking equipment... everything as light as possible. Tomorrow is the day, Simone and Moritz will guide the tour. Cross fingers until Friday!
