The last days were hot and with a rather high humidity in the air. Days close to 30 degrees C are common now; luckily during the nights it cools down for a short while to around 18 degrees. It will not change until end of July, weather forecast says. Only starting from August, day-temperatures will be lower again. Unfortunately rain is a rare thing at the moment, although nature would appreciate it so much.
Blueberries are ready to be picked. Lakka-Berries need only some few more days. The first mushrooms are here as well. Caused by this, it happens that a planned 3-hour-hike takes much longer.... because all those sweet berries need to be collected...
Last week we were on tour almost daily with Sari, Grietje, Melanie, Roan, Markus and Marcus. Hiking and paddling, as long and as far as everybody wanted. Also a 2-day-hike with outside-overnight and a refreshing bath in the river after arrival at overnight place (with clothes on of course, as it was so hot, no longer waiting was possible..) was on the week-program. This week is dedicate to the families. A lot of children are visiting us at the moment. And also for this week we have pre-bookings for day-hikes, day-paddling, a 2-day-canoe-trip and also a 3-day-canoetrip. Certainly a nice thing to do at those current temperatures. And as the nights are still very light, the feeling to sit at midnight outside the tent and hear nothing, cannot be put in words.
In the kennels the dogs accepted finally the summer-break. In the old kennels, they were digging holes like crazy to find some cooling; one day they gave up and now they just lie and don't move a lot. Of course, when the gate to the pool is opened, then they all are awake immediately! In the new kennels almost the same. When we do free runs with them, they are are hyper energetic; when they realise that today is no free run, they just relax and sleep all day long.
Let's face the last days of July - and cross fingers that August will be as beautiful, but hopefully a bit less hot!
