Polarlights, torches & Musher-Workshop

"When can the Polarlights be seen?" A frequently asked question from guests. And never we would have thought, that a good answer would be "beginning of October". But true... that early in the winter-season we could follow the first real spectacle of Northern lights in the sky above Eräkeskus. It was so intense and lasted so long, that 3 team-members (the real tough guys...) decided to pack sleeping bags and go outside for overnighting, to be able to see everything, not miss a single glance. Afterwards it was said, that it was a bit cold during the night...

Our Musher-Workshop-Season is running good! Last week we had 2 families visiting us for the week program. And the kids had a lot of fun to participate in the dog training, handmake tuglines, helping in the kennels etc.  During the overnight-trip to our wilderness cabin Aittokoski, we included then a torch-hike in the late evening which was beautiful even without snow.

No, we do not yet have snow! But the 0-degree-target is coming closer... the last few training days were often stopped or shortened because of rain or too warm or too humid conditions. Durin those days, workers in shorts or t-shirts could be seen trainign the dogs... strange! But finally today, we could do the first nice +12km-run with the dogs and let them run on different trails for once.  Also our oldies Timmy, Junior, Marvin, Sakke and many more are now running a bit once in a while. Only for fun of course, as those old friends will hardly ever run more than 10 km in one day anymore.

Our sled-department informs about the sucessful construction of our first selfmade runners. And our cabin-construction-team informs about finishing 50 new doghouses, which will be moved to the wilderness cabins Aittokoski and Hähnijoki for winter-season. Winter - we are ready!.

Melli has left us a few days ago. She joined our team spontaneously for the last 6 weeks to replace a volunteer who did cancel his contract. She was a good help, not only in training, out on shopping tours and in the kennels. But especially the puppies appreciated her patience, improved their behaviour and were happy to join for regular walks with her.  Thank you Melli for your help! Enjoy now your well-deserved holiday under the southern sun!
