After many sunny days...

... we now get a lot of new snow!

Yes, a really crazy winter-weather here at the moment. We had really cold days, close to -40C, then a short period with "normal" temperatures. The last 2 weeks were constantly clear and sunny. Sadly no northern lights in the nights, but great sun from morning 7h30 to 17h in the evening. Blue sky, hard and fast trails, a lot of snow and once more phantastic light. During those days we could perfectly well prepare us and our dogs for the soon coming Eräkeskus-Race. More about that later... Now since 2 days we get a lot of new snow, about 40 cm in the last 36 hours. On top of that heavy winds, what make our trail-life on open areas like lakes and swamps a bit more complicated. In certain parts the prints and trails from 4 teams in the morning can hardly be found anymore in the afternoon. After a windy night, the trails in open areas are simply gone. That's the time when our scooter "Titan" drives out and opens the trails again, one after one. For coming weekend a warm period up to 3C plus is announced. Yes, a really crazy winter-weather here at the moment...!

Our Fun-Race - as all the sprint-races are cancelled due to Corona - takes place on February 26th ad 27th. Our race-trail is 16km long and we drive it twice. Start is on Friday at 11h00, Frieda was drawn as starter nbr 1. Elisa and Gabi are Race-Crew and measure the time. Caro, Frank, Noah, Robin and Simone are all starting in the 6-dog-class. Everybody could select his/her dreamteam and train that alone during the last weeks. And as it is in real races, the inner tension is rising now, everybody tries with pokerface and just a few little infos about his last run, to imprees the others and still keep the real important details hidden. Who has the fastest team, the most of luck on Friday and Saturday? Will more females come in heat and disturb all the plannings? Probably the last training-run takes place on Wednesday, then the dogs have a day off and we have time to prepare the rest, wax the runners, check the lines, defrost the sled, massage the dogs, etc.  Thanks to Corona we have plenty of dogs available for such an event and I guess it will be the highlight of the month! Stay tuned... updates will be on Facebook!
