For Beginners, Families and Nature-Lovers
During my younger days in Switzerland I already loved to be on and nearby water. Windsurfing on the Swiss lakes, kayaking on French rivers Ardèche and Loue, riverrafting on Inn or Vorderrhein: nowhere I can relax as perfectly as when being on water. This excitement still lasts and I still love to be on tours with my kayak. Gladly also for several days, although I miss my dogs already on day 2 to be honest...
It's a privilege to live in an area with so many lakes and with Finlands most beautiful beaches just around the corner. I am happy to show you the paddling-paradise on Lake Pankajärvi! My favourite route is easy, suitable for everybody, without rapids or challenges. Simply captivating by its pure nature-beauty from the rivers and lakes in our area. Smalll islands, lonely coves, sandy beaches. If you want to slow down completely, enjoy a trip without wild action, if you have kids or have never been in a canoe before, this is the trip for you - no matter what age you are!
You want to join? Happy to meet you!
Eräkeskus - Lieksanjoki - Pankajärvi
We pack all our gear in the morning into waterproof bags and barrels: tent, matress, sleeping bag, food, cooking equipment, towel and suncream. Then we load our kayaks or canoes and launch them to water straigh at the own beach. We start our tour by crossing Lake Nurmijärvi and entering the River-/Lake-System of Lieksanjoki, paddling south. After some 1 1/2 hours paddling we reach the first beautiful sandy beach and take a break here for lunch, maybe a swim. Only a few 100 meters further, we then head east and follow river Mukajoki upstream for a few kilometers. But don't worry, there is almost no current, really easy paddling! During afternoon we reach the windshelter and fireplace Kivikoro, beautifully situated on a half-island. Here we put up our tents, make fire, cook our dinner, listen to the silence, just relax and wait for the night to come.
A tasty breakfast next morning before we load our tent and all equipment back to the kayaks/canoes. We follow river Lieksanjoki further south, paddling through a lonely, hilly forest area, until we spot the first houses from village Pankajärvi. We cross a very short and very easy flow to enter Lake Pankajärvi with a mostly uncultivated eastern shoreline. I am sure you will love my favourite beach here! We stop for a lunch break and if you want, enjoy a refreshing bath! Then we continue paddling around small islands, along more sandy beaches, heading west, where a car with trailer waits and brings us back to Eräkeskus.
If you want a 3-day-trip, we have overnight in our tents on one of the many sandy beaches. Day 3 is then for paddling further south on the lake, dozens of islands, many sandy beaches, untouched forest-areas, a bit of everything. At the end of day 3 we get transferred back to Eräkeskus from the southern end of Lake Pankajärvi.
