4 days Paddling on the Pankasaari-Route
4 days Lake- and River-Paddling with guide, suitable also for beginners. A tough mind is needed to master day 2, when we go upstream. 75 km of changing landscapes, lakes, rivers, rapids, lonely shores and sandy beaches. We start on easy River Lieksanjoki and Lake Pankajärvi. Then the rivers Pudasjoki and Naarajoki provide us some adventurous rapids.
Day by Day
Day 1 | Arrival at Eräkeskus should be around 10h00 in the morning. Optionally we can book you a room for the night before the tour in our guest house. Meet your guide and other paddlers in the lodge. Together we pack the equipment and food for our 4-day-adventure. Then we start just outside Eräkeskus on the shore of Lake Nurmijärvi. The first 16 km are easy going lake- and river-paddling. Then we arrive at the first rapid, Kohosenkoski with 200m length. From now on we are on Lake Panakjärvi who is about 12 km long and had no official fireplaces or shelters all around. After 24 km total paddling we reach a nice shore, suitable for wilderness caming. Here we put up our tent, prepare dinner and enjoy the light nights of Finland. |
Day 2 | After a tasty breakfast we load our boats again and continue our trip on Pankajärvi. After 8 km we reach River Pudasjoki, only 6.5 km long and bringing us 3 easy rapids - but: we have to paddle it upstream! Depending on water level we will have to pull or carry the canoes. Then we reach River Naarajoki, bordering the nature resort of Ruunaa. Our windshelter "Niskalahti" for the night is reached after 24 km total distance. |
Day 3 & 4 | Our tasty breakfasts in wilderness give us energy for the 2 remaining days and the about 30 km of paddling in front of us. Shortly after our re-start from Niskalahti, we reach the 3 big rapids for this day: Naarakoski (300m), Kapykoski (300m) and Saarikoski (420m). According to water level and your own experience, we can also carry the boats around and water them again after the rapids. After those, we are heading into easy slow water again on River Mukajoki and later on Lieksanjoki. On those last 30 km we find several windshelters and fireplaces and can decide during the day, where we want to stop for the night. Day 3 and 4 are more relaxing and give a nice contrast to day 1 and 2. On day 4 beginning of afternoon we should be back in the lodge. Here you maybe spend some more nights in the guesthouse or you continue your own trip through Finland. |
