Active Family-Week in North-Karelia

Our family-week "Fit & Fun" is especially  made for family with kids. Enjoy an outdoor-week with different activities, daily changing experiences like husky-trekking, create collars and leashes, burn your name into a wooden cup, campfire-cooking, paddling and a lot of time with our dogs. Small group sizes of maximum 2 families allow us to really adjust the difficulty of our activities to the possibilities of the kids. The adults stand behind, as here the kids decide!

Day by Day program

Day 1: Individual arrival with your own car or a rental car at Eräkeskus or by airplane (you can book a transfer against extra-costs,, if needed). Move into your room, before we serve you a three-course dinner with the Eräkeskus Team.

Day 2: After breakfast we show you our Huskyfarm. You will see the kennels and you get many information about our 160 Sleddogs. We show you how we take care of our dogs which are living in two big kennels on our yard. Before having a lunch a lunch in our bbq-hut, we show you how to manufacture a collar and a leash, which you can then use later in the week for walking our dogs. In the afternoon we will be creative and burn with a carving tool your name on a wooden cup. Before the three-course dinner is served, you have enough time to enjoy our electric sauna or try out SUP-Boards, canoe, kajak or rowing boat.

Day 3: Breakfast in the lodge and then start for the Husky-Trekking. We pack our backpacks, take the dogs and drive to the Änäkainen Lakes. The dogs are in harness and attached to our hip-belt. We hike about 6 km in the beautiful forests and over little hills before we arrive at the Jynkkälampi-Pond, where we have a short break The dogs can have a swim in the lake - you as well, if you want. Then we hike 5 km more to the windshelter "Little Alaska", where we will have our late lunch on open fire and the dogs get snacks. The 4 last kilometers are easily done, mostly flat. As the dogs pull us, we move very fast. After arrival at the windshelter of Lake Suuri-Pilonen we will roast marshmallows until our transfer back starts. 3-course dinner in the lodge.

Day 4: Your day off! After breakfast you can enjoy the day as you like. Maybe with rapid rafting in Ruuna or exploring the nature around Eräkeskus by bike. For your lunch you take whatever you like from the breakfast buffet and in the evening we will serve you dinner again in the lodge.

Day 5: 2-Day-Canoe-Tour:
After breakfast we will pack the paddle-equipment and everything what we need for our 2-day-paddling- tour. We start at Lake Nurmijärvi just in front of the lodge and paddle first from one lake to the next, all on still water. Lunch is prepared at a small sandy beach. The rest of the paddling is on slowly running river Mukajoki, upstream, but you will not even feel it. We put up our tents on half-island Kivikoronvirta where we have firewood and a windshelter waiting for us as well. We stay overnight here and cook on open fire, before getting a good sleep in tent and sleepingbags. The paddle-distance is about 12 km.

Day 6: 2-Day-Canoe-Tour:
Camp-Breakfast on open fire. Then we take down tents and load our canoes with all our equipment. We leave the place as clean as it was when we arrived. Paddling now down-stream is easy and we soon arrive at the small and easy rapids Kohosenkoski. If you want, we can also carry the canoes around, but normally even complete beginners paddle through without problems. Lunchbreak will be on a nice river-bank or a small sandy beach, depending on how fast we paddle.  Shortly after the rapids we arrive at our final destination on the western side of Lake Pankajärvi, where we get a transfer back to Eräkeskus. After the equipment is unloaded, you can enjoy the wood-heated sauna on the lakeside or simply relax in the lodge until dinnertime.

Day 7: Hiking to ET:
Your last day! After breakfast we pack our backpacks, take some dogs and hike around Lake Puuruu to the so-called ET-Peninsula. Maybe will tell you why the place has this name while we will have our Lunchbreak. You can also have a swim in the lake before we walk back to Eräkeskus. Spend the rest of the day as you like, maybe in the kennels with our dogs or on the beach. Farewill-Dinner in the lodge.

Day 8: Breakfast and end of your holiday at Eräkeskus. Individual departure or - if pre-booked - transfer to airport or railwaystation.

All activities during the week can of course be adjusted/shortened according to your wishes and capabilities.

Depending on weather and bookings, the "day off" can be switched to another weekday.
