Why Eräkeskus?
Eräkeskus stands for authentic experiences in the untouched Finnish wilderness – far from mass tourism and in a warm, family-like atmosphere. Expect true adventures, a deep connection with nature, and genuine slow living.
- Family atmosphere – With just 10 to 16 guests at a time, you’ll enjoy personal attention, heartfelt hospitality, and the feeling of being part of a small community.
- Small groups, big experiences – Our sled dog and hiking tours take place in small groups of 2 to 5 guests – for intense, personal, and close-to-nature moments.
- Untouched wilderness instead of crowded trails – In North Karelia, you’ll hardly meet snowmobiles or tourists – instead, find endless space, deep silence, and pure nature.
- Maximum connection with the dogs – Our dogs are not just part of the tours, but part of the family. You can spend time with them, cuddle them, and learn about their lives and training.
- Gentle tourism & respect for nature – We focus on sustainable experiences with minimal environmental impact – for adventures in harmony with nature.
- Peace & relaxation – Experience winter differently: without rush, but with cozy evenings by the fire, Finnish sauna, and lots of time to breathe.
Difficulty Level 1
Our tours are designed for anyone wanting to actively experience the winter wilderness. The distances and difficulty of the sledding days are adapted to the conditions and the group.
However, our tours require a good basic fitness level. Driving a sled is an active sport: the dogs need help, whether at the start, on hills, or in deep snow. Walking in thick winter clothing can also be more challenging than expected.
You don’t need to be an athlete, but a certain level of physical fitness is essential to enjoy the tours safely and joyfully. If you’re unsure whether this trip is right for you, feel free to contact us – we’re happy to advise you personally!
