Looking for Alice

On this day-hike we explore a fairytale-forest along lakes and rivers, cross a protected northern jungle and  admire the forest-ground, covered with thick moss. Looks like "Alice in Wonderand" must be nearby.

We start the day with a short transfer by car to the lakes Änäkäinen, where we start our hiking-trip up north. We follow the Karhunpolku (Bear’s Trail) along the shore of the lakes through forests and easy hills. After 6 km we reach Laklaniemi, a nice wind shelter and fireplace, where we can make a first stop. Our way then continues through light forest-areas with river Jongunjoki mostly nearby. Probably our 4-legged hiking-friends enjoy a short swim several times. We reach the Valama-forests, an EU-protected area where bear prints are often seen. Having crossed this deep jungle-like forest, we reach the small wilderness cabin after about 12 kilometres. Here we have our late lunch break, make fire and relax for a while. The last part of our hike, 1 more kilometer to the road, seems rather short after that break. We get a car-transfer back to Eräkeskus.
